(Post 22) Forms and Conventions

Image
The forms and conventions of a professional music video include many different aspects of video making which we'll try to conform to, but also challenge in some areas. In terms of camera angles, professionally made music videos tend to use a range of different shots such as close-ups, long-shots and mid-shots which all help create emphasis on the singer or band, the location they are in and the emotions their song is trying to bring across. Camera movements such as tilts, pans, tracking an crane shots all help follow and trace the artist. Most music videos have the performance of the artist as the main part of the video, sometimes a story is added to the performance, either enacted by an actor or the artist themselves. The transition between storyline and the performance of the artist is often created through the use of jump cuts or fade and dissolve effects, which allow sudden changes from one scene to another. Besides the filming and editing techniques, miss-en-scene is a ...

(Post 20) - Final Practice video Task Planning

Here we were put into groups of around 3/4 people, and were given a range of songs which we could choose to use in our 1 minute music video which we had to do. We had two styles of video which we could use.  One style was the  one take , which was inspiration from the band 'OK Go' who do there videos in the style of no editing and film it all in one take: Then we had another choice of doing our video in the style  Wes Anderson.  Wesley Wales Anderson  (born May 1, 1969) is an American  film director ,  film producer ,  screenwriter , and  actor . His films are known for their distinctive visual and narrative style. He was known for filming everything directly in the middle of his shoots: We decided in our group to try and do the one take video, in the style of the band 'OK Go' to the song She's So Lovely by Scouting for Girls: And here is our  Practice Planning Video:

(Post 17) Ancillary Task 2 practice

This is a photo of the album cover we have been given. We have been given the task to recreate this photo with someone we know. Our plan is to use Rebecca Bennet, we will use as much of the same props as used in this original photo. As a group we are going to gather together as many of the props that we have between us and but the rest. We will tie Rebecca's hair up to give the impression that the side of her hair is shaved. We will do her makeup and attempt to make it as similar to Rhianna's as we can. She will wear a black T-shirt and a similar bracelet to the one in the original photo.  These photos are from during the process of taking the photos for the album and the beginning of the process of editing them. The first two are when we were doing her makeup and trying to make it look as similar as we could to the real photo of Rhianna. The third photo is of the beginning of the editing process when we turned the photo to black and white. This is our fin...

What makes a film poster/music album cover stand out from others? In what ways can you think of film posters/music album covers linking to the film plot/music video/song themselves? How much of a marketing tool do you consider a film poster and album cover to be? As a consumer, what hints/tips can you give us in regard to making our own posters and/or album covers?

We (Paula, Jess & Evie) decided to work as a group with the initial ideas we collected for our practice task which we have explained and written down in  (Post 1) Our practice task explained Additional to our initial ideas we got a better feel for the shots and atmosphere we want to create. The pictures below give an insight into the aesthetics, locations, costumes and colour pallet that inspires us and that we are trying to demonstrate in our music video.

(Post 13) Music Video or Short Film?!

Image
For our A2 coursework portfolio we chose to create a music video, rather than a short film. After watching many music videos as well as researching and watching some short films, we decided that based on our interests, our knowledge of filming and editing and our time management, making a music video would be best for our group. For our practice task we created a music video purely based on performance which was very interesting and different to what we used to do and we would like to explore this further in our coursework. Making a music video gives us the opportunity to combine the creativity of creating a storyline and the technical knowledge of using film and music in one media. If we would have chosen to make a short film, our ideas would be based on the storyline, however with a music video we can combine the storyline with a lyrical text and give the audience a more cinematic feel by using supporting music. Music videos are often much shorter than short films, which means that w...
